Welcome to the new website for the University of Akron Society of Women Engineers Section!  We have had many issues in the past with developing HTML content for the University to put on our old website, so we have moved to using a WordPress site, with the goal of making information easier for you to access and more up-to-date!

If you have any suggestions for our new site, please email your comments to me, and Iwill encorporate your suggestions into the site as soon as possible!

WE’11 Award!

This year’s SWE annual conference in Chicago, our Akron section won an award for Outstanding Collegiate Section Bronze award! Here is an icon that they gave to us to display proudly on our website! Congrats!

 

Welcome Back!

Spring Semester is HERE!

 

Join SWE this Wednesday, January 19th from 11-12 in Schrank Hall South 145 for the first meeting of the new semester! Learn about the upcoming retreat, SWE scholarships, regional positions, the regional conference, WIE updates, and Relay for Life. As always, food will be provided but remember to bring your own drink. (Check it out on Facebook)

Also, the Spring 2011 Planning Retreat is this Friday, January 21st from 5:30-8:30pm and Saturday, January 22nd from 9am-Noon in ASEC 223/224. It’s not mandatory to attend both days. If you can only come to one of the portions that would still be great – just let Nicole Averell (nma14) know by Thursday at noon. Dinner on Friday and breakfast on Saturday will be provided, just remember to bring your own drink, as usual. Come to the retreat and plan activities, speakers, events, etc. and have tons of fun! Scholarships, Scholarships, Scholarships!!

Below is information for some local and state-wide scholarship opportunities – make sure to apply by the provided deadlines!

• Choose Ohio First Scholarship Program – For students from the state of Ohio, especially those who are minorities, nontraditional students, or underrepresented in STEM fields, pursuing degrees at colleges and universities in the State of Ohio.  The application is open to current and future University of Akron Students. • The Akron Area Engineers Week Scholarship Committee is now accepting applications for high school and/or undergraduate college students interested in pursuing an engineering career. The application has just been posted for the FY11 Region G SWE Awards!! Feel free to either nominate yourself or help to nominate our SWE Section for any of the awards!  The application deadline is January 2, 2011!  Good luck ladies!
